The Global Conclave on Plastics Recycling and Sustainability kicked off on Thursday at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. Organized by the All-India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association and the Chemicals & Petrochemicals Manufacturers’ Association, this first-of-its-kind event in India will conclude on July 7. Al Mehtab Industries (AMI) plays a crucial role in organizing this mega event. As a leader in adopting and pioneering cutting-edge technology in India, AMI is committed to reducing carbon footprints and contributing to ecological balance.
The four-day event serves as a significant platform for discussing innovations and advancements in plastic recycling. It has brought together global leaders to share their perspectives on creating a greener tomorrow through sustainable practices in the plastics industry.
Mr. Ram Inder Singh Kochar, Promoter & Managing Director of Al Mehtab Industries, stated, “This conclave marks a pivotal moment for the plastics industry in India. By bringing together innovators and leaders, we are setting the stage for a sustainable future. The opportunities discussed here will pave the way for significant advancements in plastic recycling and sustainability.”
During the event, speakers highlighted the importance for recyclers to seize business opportunities in the circular economy, especially as governments enforce plastic sustainability throughout the supply chain. Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) is a form of plastic produced from repurposed PET waste collected from businesses and consumers.
Highlighting business opportunities, the latest trends, and cutting-edge innovations, the mega event aims to illuminate numerous prospects for trade across various sectors. The exhibition showcases products on sustainability, boosting brand visibility, and introducing new offerings to industry professionals, engaging stakeholders across the entire supply chain.
India’s largest players in the plastic recycling market have gathered to share their insights and trade secrets, further enhancing the event’s impact. Exhibitors include plastic recyclers, plastic machinery manufacturers, waste management agencies, biodegradable plastics producers, FMCG brand owners, and e-waste recyclers, among others.
Notably, the global plastic recycling market is valued at USD 45.5 billion for FY 2024-25 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 9.8 percent, reaching USD 129.5 billion by 2030.
What is PET?
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in synthetic fibers, beverage, food, and other liquid containers, as well as in thermoforming applications and engineering resins. It is an excellent barrier material, widely used for soft drink bottles, and plays a crucial role in the packaging industry.
PET Facts:
– Accounts for 40% of the global packaging mix and contributes 68% less solid waste by weight compared to glass and aluminum containers.
– Recycling 1 ton of PET containers saves 6 cubic meters of landfill space and reduces 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions versus landfilling or incineration.
– PET is fast replacing glass and aluminum in the packaging market, with lower per capita consumption in India (0.3 kg) compared to the global average (over 2 kg).
– Recycling each plastic bottle can conserve enough energy to light a 60W light bulb for up to 6 hours, while glass and aluminum containers yield significantly more atmospheric emissions.
